Page Management Guide - website planning
The Pages interface in LinkMap helps you plan and manage both existing and future pages of your website. Whether you're mapping out a new site or expanding an existing one, the page management tools give you full control over your site's structure.
Accessing Page Management
You'll find the Pages interface in two places within LinkMap. The most direct route is through the "Pages" tab in the main navigation when viewing your site structure visualization. Alternatively, you can manage pages directly from the visualization by clicking any page node to open its details modal.
Adding New Pages
To add a new page to your site structure:
- Click the "Add New Page" button at the top of the Pages table
- Enter the required information:
- URL - The page's path (e.g., /products/new-item)
- Title - The page's title tag content
- H1 - The main heading for the page
- Click "Save" to add the page to your structure
Managing Page Properties
Each page in your structure has several properties that affect how it's positioned in your site's hierarchy and relationships:
- URL - The page's address relative to your domain
- Title - Meta title used by search engines
- H1 - Main heading displayed on the page
- Depth - How many clicks from the homepage (affects crawlability)
- PageVal - Internal PageRank score showing relative importance
Editing Existing Pages
To modify a page's properties:
- Find the page in the Pages table or click its node in the visualization
- Click the "Edit" button (or click the node in the visualization)
- Modify the desired fields in the edit form
- Click "Save" to update the page
Setting Page Relationships
Pages in LinkMap can be connected through parent-child relationships, which affect both your site's structure and how authority flows through your site. These relationships form the foundation for implementing your chosen optimization strategy.
Creating Relationships
There are two ways to establish relationships between pages:
- In the visualization:
- Click a page node to start linking
- Click the link icon on another node to create the connection
- Through the Relationships tab:
- Click "Add New Relationship"
- Select the source and target pages
- Click Save to create the link
Deleting Pages
When you delete a page, LinkMap automatically handles relationship cleanup to maintain your site's structure integrity:
- Find the page you want to remove
- Click the "Delete" button
- Confirm the deletion when prompted
- LinkMap will automatically:
- Remove all relationships to and from the page
- Update the visualization to reflect the changes
- Recalculate PageVal scores for affected pages
Planning Future Content
LinkMap is particularly useful for planning new content and site expansions. When adding planned pages:
- The system marks them as "planned" with a dashed border in the visualization
- You can pre-establish relationships with existing content
- Use the sharing features to get stakeholder approval on planned changes
