Managing Your Projects
Projects are the foundation of your experience with LinkMap, organizing your website's structure and optimizations in one place. Let's explore how to create and manage your projects effectively.
Creating Your First Project
When you first log in to LinkMap, you'll need to create a project before accessing the visualization and optimization tools. Navigate to Projects and click the "Create New Project" button.
During project creation, you'll need to provide:
- Project Name: A descriptive name to identify your project
- Domain: Your website's domain name
Domain Configuration
When setting up your project, pay special attention to your domain configuration. This ensures LinkMap analyzes the correct version of your pages:
- Protocol Selection: Choose between http:// and https:// (recommended)
- WWW Preference: Decide whether to include or exclude "www"
- Trailing Slash: Set your preference for URLs with or without trailing slashes
- Canonical Settings: Configure how LinkMap should handle canonical URLs
These settings help maintain consistency with your site's primary domain version as indicated by your canonical tags. For visualization accuracy, these should match your website's preferred URLs as defined in your site structure.
Managing Multiple Projects
If you work with multiple websites or clients, you can create and manage separate projects for each one. The projects dashboard provides a clear overview of all your projects.
Switching Between Projects
To switch between projects:
- Use the projects dropdown in the top navigation bar
- Select the project you want to work with
- The interface will update to show data for the selected project
Project Sharing
A powerful feature of LinkMap is the ability to share your visualizations with clients or team members. Access the sharing options through the "Project Sharing" tab in your project's visualization interface.
Project Settings and Modifications
You can modify project settings at any time:
- Click the "Edit" button next to your project
- Update the desired settings
- Save your changes
Deleting Projects
To delete a project:
- Click the "Delete" button next to the project
- Confirm the deletion
- Note: This action cannot be undone and will remove all project data, including visualizations and page data
Pro Tip: Project Organization
When managing multiple projects, establish a clear naming convention that includes the client name or website purpose and the environment (e.g., "ClientName-Production" or "ClientName-Development"). This helps maintain organization as your project list grows.
With your project properly configured, you're ready to explore your site's structure through the interactive visualization and begin optimizing your website's architecture.
