The LinkMap chat system provides real-time communication tools integrated directly into your SEO workflow for your team. This guide covers how to effectively use all chat features.

Chat Room Types

Project Rooms

Project rooms are automatically created for each project in your LinkMap workspace. These rooms facilitate project-specific discussions and cannot be deleted or made private.

Key Features:

Every project gets a dedicated chatroom upon creation with permanent public visibility. Team members automatically join when added to project access and retain chat access while they have project permissions. Project updates and discussions stay contextual within the dedicated room environment.

Direct Message (DM) Rooms

DM rooms enable conversations between team members. They're created automatically when initiating your first message to another team member.

Usage:

  1. Click the chat icon in the top navigation
  2. Select a user from the dropdown under "Direct Messages"
  3. Start your conversation
  4. Room remains accessible for future communications

Behaviors:

DM rooms remain always visible to both participants with no privacy modification options. Messages retain 30-day history for reference and continuity.

Custom Rooms

Create unlimited custom rooms for team-wide discussions, departments, or specific initiatives.

Creation Process:

  1. Click "New Custom Room" in chat dropdown
  2. Set room name
  3. Choose privacy level (public/private)
  4. Add initial members
  5. Confirm creation

Management:

Custom rooms offer complete control over member access and room settings. You can add or remove members anytime and toggle privacy settings as needed. Room names stay customizable and member access remains under your control.

Message Management

The system handles message delivery and storage with automatic 30-day message retention. Real-time delivery operates based on your subscription tier with sender and timestamp tracking. Basic text formatting support enhances message clarity.

User Interface

The chat interface offers flexible positioning and state management as you change pages:

Window Controls:

Drag the window by its header to reposition anywhere on screen. Minimize to header-only view or close completely based on your workflow needs.

State Persistence:

Your window position saves between page navigation with minimized or maximized state retained. Current room selection stays remembered until logout while unread message tracking maintains accuracy across sessions.

Room management options vary by room type:

Project & DM Rooms:

These rooms offer member list viewing only with no privacy controls on public rooms. Member removal options remain unavailable for these automatically managed spaces.

Custom Rooms:

Custom rooms provide unlimited creation potential with full member management capabilities. Privacy toggling lets members see and join only when granted access. Member addition and removal plus room naming stay under your complete control.

Notifications

The notification system provides real-time alerts based on your subscription tier:

Visual Indicators:
