Export Options Guide

The LinkMap visualization interface includes powerful export capabilities that allow you to save and share your site structure visualizations in multiple formats. Located in the visualization interface's toolbar, you'll find three export options that serve different purposes.

PNG Export - High-Quality Images

The PNG export option is ideal for presentations and documentation where image quality is paramount. When you click the "Export as PNG" button, LinkMap will:

  • Generate a high-resolution capture of your current visualization view
  • Preserve the exact colors and clarity of your node relationships
  • Include all visible elements like the color legend and any active highlights
  • Save the image with a transparent background for maximum flexibility

PNG exports are particularly useful when creating client presentations or documentation that will be viewed on high-resolution displays. To ensure the best quality, consider using the visualization controls to frame your desired view before exporting.

JPG Export - Optimized File Size

The JPG export option creates a more compact file size while maintaining good visual quality. This format is perfect for:

  • Email attachments where file size matters
  • Quick sharing via messaging platforms
  • Web-based presentations
  • Situations where storage space is limited

JSON Export - Data Backup

The JSON export option is designed for technical users and provides a complete data snapshot of your visualization. This format captures:

  • Complete node and relationship data
  • Page properties and metadata
  • Current layout positions and settings
  • Color scheme and visualization parameters

JSON exports are particularly valuable for:

  • Creating data backups
  • Technical analysis
  • Custom processing or integration with other tools
  • Development and debugging purposes

Export Process

When you click any export button, the system will:

  1. Show a visual indicator that the export is in progress
  2. Process the current visualization state
  3. Generate the selected file format
  4. Automatically initiate the download
  5. Confirm successful export with a visual indicator

For optimal results when exporting, ensure that your visualization is properly arranged and any desired filters or highlights are applied. You can create multiple exports with different views or arrangements to capture various aspects of your site structure.

Best Practices

When working with exports, consider these recommendations:

  • Use PNG for professional presentations and documentation that will be shared with clients
  • Choose JPG for quick sharing and when file size needs to be minimized
  • Create JSON exports periodically to maintain data backups
  • Consider using the project sharing features for interactive collaboration instead of static exports
  • Organize exported files with clear naming conventions including date and project information

You can also use exports in combination with the analysis tools to document specific findings or changes in your site structure over time. This is particularly valuable when tracking the impact of optimization efforts or presenting progress to stakeholders.
